Nevertheless, encouraging certain patients to consume copious amounts of cilantro may be warranted. These individuals would include those who frequently consume seafood that may contain traces of mercury, children or adults living in old houses with potential lead dust, paint, or water pipes, and those with dental amalgam fillings. Of course, with the increase of environmental pollution, it would be advantageous for all to become fond of this unique, culinary herb.

Reactive Oxygen Species 

Building upon the aforementioned detoxification abilities of cilantro, this herb has been found to be a superior detoxifier of reactive oxygen species, owing to the presence of various phenolic compounds. Previous studies have found high phenolic content in the leaf and seed of Coriandrum sativum, but more recent studies have found the root to contain equal quantities making this entire herb therapeutic. These compounds were studied for their anti-proliferative effects on cancer cells and found to be highly effective in inducing apoptosis of cancer cells, while also arresting the cell cycle. They proved to protect DNA from free radical damage and prevent cell migration.. Thus, cilantro shows promise as an herb that could aid in protecting against cancer, primarily through its capacity to function as a powerful antioxidant.

Drug-Resistant Pathogens

It would seem that cilantro’s detoxing capability extends beyond heavy metals and free radicals, to drug-resistant pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. In the case of the latter, the essential oil from the leaves of Coriandrum sativum was discovered to have strong anti fungal activity against various species responsible for Candidiasis. The volatile compounds found within the leaves of cilantro were able to induce cell death of Candida; affect the biofilm structure; had anti-adherent and anti-proteolytic activity.. In another study, fresh cilantro leaves were dried and prepared into fresh juice, aqueous, and methanol extracts.  These were then assayed against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and found to inhibit growth of all species. The antimicrobial activity of cilantro has been well established, making this herb useful for a variety of pathogen-influenced conditions, including dysbiosis and irritable bowel syndrome.

The clean, refreshing aroma of cilantro is not only appealing to the culinary artist, but also proves to be a useful tool to the clinician. Acting analogous to a multipurpose cleanser, this unique herb should be a frequent addition to any healthy lifestyle. Most salads, soups or pasta dishes are easily brightened up with the addition of fresh cilantro leaves. Salsa is the most common use for cilantro, but other sauces benefit from this herb as well. Proton Pump Inhibitors

 Proton Pump Inhibitors Worse than the Indigestion they Supposedly Cure

A class of antacid medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has now been proven to be quite harmful. Some common PPIs include Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid, and Protonix. Many of these are available over the counter with no prescription. Proton pump inhibitors are used in the management of simple heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux and peptic ulcer disease. PPIs decrease acid in the stomach by blocking an enzyme that is needed for the production of hydrochloric acid.

The FDA itself has issued a warnings about these drugs, including statements that they cause low magnesium and increased risk of osteoporosis. PPIs increase the risk of infectious diarrhea caused by such organisms as Clostridium difficile (C. diff). This infection often requires hospitalization, treatment with various IV antibiotics, and can be fatal in the very young, elderly and immuno-compromised individuals. PPIs also inhibit the absorption of vitamin B12 and calcium, and have multiple drug interactions. Higher doses and long-term use of PPIs greatly increase the risks.

Fracture Risk: The FDA has come out with a warning to health care professionals and consumers that PPIs lead to increased risk of fractures of the hip, wrist and spine. This warning is based on the agency’s own review of several studies.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that patients over age 50 who were treated with PPIs for over a year had a 44% increased risk of hip fracture. High doses and long tern use increased this risk even more. At the same time PPIs inhibit the absorption of calcium, they inhibit the proton pumps in the cells which build new bone. This leads to osteoporosis due to both calcium deficiency and impaired ability to build new bone.

Low magnesium: In 2011, the FDA issued a warning that PPIs can induce low magnesium if taken for long periods of time. They recommended that prescribers obtain a serum magnesium test prior to initiation of therapy and periodically thereafter. In patients taking Digoxin for heart conditions, low magnesium greatly increases its toxicity. In 25% of patients who developed low magnesium, supplements were not enough to correct this, and the drug had to be discontinued.

Magnesium is a critical mineral and is needed for virtually every function of the body. It activates enzymes, is involved in energy production, regulates heartbeat and muscle contractions, and regulates calcium, copper, zinc, potassium, Vitamin D and many other nutrients present in the body.

Deficiency of magnesium can cause heart arrhythmias, profound weakness and fatigue, restless leg syndrome, confusion, jerky muscle movements, and high blood pressure.

Be aware that the bottom of the “normal” range for serum magnesium is so low that it is not going to pick up a problem until the person is already very ill. It is nearly impossible to take too much magnesium unless there is a problem with the kidneys. If serum magnesium levels get too high, the kidneys will excrete it. Also, oral magnesium, especially magnesium oxide, at higher doses will cause diarrhea and can be excreted this way.

Drug Interactions: These are listed in the material given with the OTC products, but how many people read and comprehend these tiny inserts?

Plavix (anti-coagulant): The FDA issued a warning to avoid taking PPIs and Plavix together as concurrent use can decrease the effectiveness of Plavix by up to 50%. This in turn could lead to blood clots, stroke and heart attacks.

Warfarin(Coumadin, anti-coagulant): PPIs inhibit breakdown of this drug in the liver, leading to high blood levels which can cause hemorrhage.

Diazepam (Valium, tranquilizer): Due to less breakdown in the liver caused by PPIs, high blood levels can result in respiratory depression, respiratory arrest, extreme fatigue, sleepiness, and confusion.

Antiretrovial agents (drugs used to treat HIV/AIDS): PPIs increase blood levels of these drugs, leading to increased side effects.

Tacrolimus (used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs): PPIs increase blood levels of this drug which cause significant problems.

Antifungals: These drugs are dependent on low pH in the stomach for absorption. Therefore, when acid production is inhibited, they are not absorbed and are thus ineffective. Any drug dependent on normal stomach acidity for absorption will be affected similarly

Treat heartburn and reflux naturally

If you have persistent heartburn and/or reflux, there are non-drug solutions. First determine the cause of the problem. Reflux is caused by a weak lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This is the doughnut shaped muscle that allows food to enter the stomach. The more common cause of heartburn/reflux is weakening of the LES caused by low stomach acid.

The hydrochloric acid produced by the stomach functions to break down proteins into amino acids, stimulates the pancreas and small intestine to secrete digestive enzymes, and prevents infection by killing pathogenic bacteria and yeasts commonly present in foods. Correcting low acid in the stomach will virtually stop heartburn/reflux without drugs. There are a few things you can do at home to help determine if your problem is low stomach acid.

  1. The baking soda test: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 8 ounces of water and drink it. Do this first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. Start timing and note how long before you belch. If you have adequate stomach acid, you should belch within 2 or 3 minutes. Stop timing at 5 minutes. No belching within 5 minutes is a good indicator of low stomach acid. Early and excessive belching may indicate excessive stomach acid.
  1. Trial of Betaine HCL: Using a product such as Gastro Plus, take 1 to 2 capsules immediately prior to eating. You may feel a sensation of warmth, but not burning. If you feel burning, discontinue use as your problem may be excess stomach acid, which is very rare. Under the guidance of a qualified professional, the dose may be titrated upwards until you feel burning, then decreased to the point where you don’t feel any actually burning. A healthy stomach produces many times the amount of hydrochloric acid found in this product.

There are medical tests which actually measure the amount of acid produced by the stomach, and some lab tests can indicate low stomach acidity. Stool analysis will show elevated short chain fatty acids. Blood tests will indicate amino acid, B vitamins and mineral deficiencies.

Some dietary and lifestyle changes can also help alleviate symptoms:

  • Eliminate sugar and refined carbohydrates
  • Keep a food diary and eliminate foods which cause or worsen the problem Many of the foods conventional medicine warns you to avoid may be fine, so listen to your own body
  • Keep the head of your bed elevated at least 6 inches until symptoms are resolved. This helps prevent the reflux of acid back into the esophagus through the LES
  • Quit smoking
  • Don’t wear tight clothing, such as belts, bras or tight waistband
  • Remain upright for an hour or more after eating
  • Avoid eating close to bedtime

One of the first things I bring up to people about wheat is that we used to use flour and water to make paste for art projects in elementary school. It’s the substance in wheat called gluten that forms the paste. This paste coats the twenty three feet of intestines and nine feet of colon. the gluten’s ‘caking’ effect increases the density of the mucous lining in the intestines, and inhibits the absorption of vital protein, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Many people who have come to me for advice have very thin arms and legs, but their lower stomachs protrude.

Not only does this process inhibit the ability to absorb vital nutrition, it interferes with the peristalsis process. Peristalsis is the wave-like movement of the intestines which moves nutrients along their way. The waves of alternate contraction and relaxation of the intestines propels the contents onward. When the intestines are coated and glued with sticky gluten, the contraction and relaxation process is interfered with, which contributes to more rubber-like coating layers and more health problems.

You may ask why did mankind create this menace grain from wild grasses and continue this hybridization process to the point of being so dangerously sticky. Because the gluten in wheat, from a cooking standpoint, traps the air bubbles produced by yeast and/or baking powder, and causes the bread to rise.Other grains can’t achieve this soft, puffy texture of wheat breads, and so wheat is almost always added to other grain products–corn muffins mixes, rye breads, etc.It may help taste and texture but it erodes health.

There is another huge problem with the consumption of wheat. Wheat, as well as other seeds and grains, contains phytic acid. Phytic acid binds with calcium, magnesium, zinc, and other minerals, and keeps the body from absorbing them. In the sections on minerals, I try to emphasize how important these minerals are to health. The binding of calcium by phytic acid leads to rickets in children and osteoporosis (loss of calcium in bones) in adults. Tests have shown that calcium is protective against bowel cancer, so when wheat (phytic acid) keeps the body from absorbing calcium, the consumption of wheat has to be considered as increasing the incidence of bowel cancer. When phytic acid keeps magnesium from being absorbed, irregular heart beats, lack of energy, hormonal imbalance, nervous disorders, soft bones, heart disease, immune dysfunction, and even cancer can result. In fact, when magnesium levels are reduced, laboratory animals have deficiencies in calcium and potassium. Low zinc levels damage the body’s immune system and leave a person more susceptible to infections, atherosclerosis, and cancer.

In fact, huge cereal companies (Carb Kings) have successfully convinced people through propaganda that high- fiber diets (from wheat products) are good for one thing or another. What the public is not told is that this high-fiber diet promotes health problems from mineral deficiencies.

In my experience with people, the high- fiber (from wheat source) approach leads to constipation and encourages mineral deficiency problems. From a roughage standpoint, there is no significant difference between refined white wheat flour and whole grain wheat flour, contrary to Carb King cereal company propaganda. Breakfast cereals and other processed foods have ‘natural’ and ‘fiber’ written on the package, but the ingredients have been milled to a fine consistency and reconstituted into a gritty and/or crisp texture to give the illusion that the person is getting natural roughage.

However, when this man-made shape gets inside your body, it quickly returns to the sticky, pasty, smooth grain and coats the person’s intestinal walls-inhibiting the absorption of vital proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

Mention should be made of the way wheat is handled from the harvest to the dinner table. I have been told by several people what happens to the wheat that they grew on their farms. Not only is the wheat sprayed with tremendously dangerous chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers,etc.) while it is growing, it gets sprayed with more chemicals when it gets stored-to keep insects and mice away. They spray to try and stop fungus from growing, but it still molds, and mice and insects still get in. They tell me that it is standard practice to mix last year’s molded wheat with this year’s harvest so it will get by inspectors. This mold, which is also found in other grain products, peanut butter, cheese, grapes, apple juice, etc. produces aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are extremely carcinogenic (cancer-causing) and damaging to health. Once the wheat is processed into flour, the little nutrition it contained is removed. The flour is sprayed (with poisons) when it gets to the factory to keep out mold, insects, and rats. When made into bread, more chemicals are added to the flour. In fact, check the ingredients on a loaf of bread and you will find such chemicals as polyglycerate 60, polysorbatego, lactylate, potassium bromide, biglycerides, artificial flavoring, etc. Artificial flavorings can have many different chemicals involved. Artificial apple flavoring can have over one hundred and eighty different chemicals. And there is no requirement to list all the hundreds of chemicals in breads like bleaches, firming agents,dough softeners, etc.

Gluten is considered one of the most allergenic substances known. A huge percentage of people can not break it down in digestion and the body responds to it as a foreign substance. The result is an allergic reaction. I think another factor in the large numbers of allergic reactions to wheat is the amount of insects and insect parts that are found in wheat and flour. Insects, over millions of years of evolution, have developed defensive chemicals as protection devises.

When a person  eats wheat or a product made of wheat flour (like bread), they can have an allergic reaction to the insects’ protective chemicals. They put out a pamphlet with a list of allowable contamination called The Food Defect Action Levels (Current Levels for Natural or Unavoidable Defects for Human Use that Present No Health Hazard). I don’t know what’ action level’ means because it just lists: “Wheat Flour- -Insect filth-A average of 75 or more insect fragments per 50 grams in 6 sub-samples” To me it reads more like the FDA will take action if there is less than 75 insect fragments per 50 grams. A large amount of ‘rodent excreta pellets’ are allowed, and rodent hairs are in there too. Any of these contaminants can cause allergic reactions.

So, the next time you are enjoying cereal, pastry, pasta, cookies, gravy, bread, or any of the many products containing wheat, think about the rat pellets, rodent hair, and insects that come with the wheat products. Then think about all the health-promoting minerals that the wheat’s phytic acid is leaching out of your body. Then think about the cancer-causing aflatoxins. And finally, picture your intestines coated with super-sticky gluten, swollen and filled with rubber-like layers that keep you from absorbing the nutrition from the food you buy. If you can still enjoy the wheat product, then you better learn to enjoy bad health.

Of the varieties mentioned, the whole herb is gathered, that is, stems with leaves and flowers,but care should be taken to pick the herb in the middle of the stem – it breaks easily – so that it can form new side shoots. The plant is cut in the fresh state. Even in the most severe cases only 2 cups of Willow herb tea are drunk, 1cup in the morning on an empty stomach and 1 cup in the evening, But it does not mean that a visit to the doctor is not necessary. In any case, for every serious illness, a doctor should be consulted.

Two species of Willow-herb which can hardly be mistaken for the smaller species are the Great Hairy Willow- and the Rose Bay Willow-herb. These cannot be used. The first.has large rose-purple flowers. It grows, much branched, in masses by ponds, in marshes and damp meadows and reaches a height of 150cm. The stems and leaves are fleshy and slightly hairy. The Austrian botanist, Richard Witlfort, who knew the Willow-herb as a medicinal plant well, does not mention it in his book. As he said, it could easily be mistaken for the Great Hairy Willow-herb, also known as Fireweed, Blood Vine, Blooming Sally, grows in copses, waste grounds recently cleared and edges of woods and reaches a height of 150 cm. The slightly reddish stems end in long showy spikes of rose-purple flowers. When the abundantly growing Rose Bay Willow-herbs flower, they turn areas into fire-red patches.

**The curative effect is so great that, often suddenly, all complaints caused by prostate disorder disappear. There are many cases where men were to have an operation, the urine came only in drops and 1cup of this tea brought relief. Of course. the tea has to be drunk throughout a period to bring about complete recovery.

NOTE: The FDA does not conduct studies on the curative properties of water, foods or plants–so no studies done on Willow Flower or most any herb for that matter.

Directions:

  1. Pour one and 1/4 cups of water in a pot and heat (distilled is always best for tea because distilled water is empty and more apt to absorb the nutrient from tea leaves. Spring water is what most people use and if not use any water–just make the tea)
  2. Put one decent sized teaspoon of the Willow-herb into the pot and simmer for a few minutes, stirring once or twice.
  3. Pour into a mug and drink.
  4. You may add honey (the good stuff) but maybe best if you take it plain.
  5. At this point there should be a little left in the pot. let this soak till night time when you add another cup of water and another tea spoon of Willow Herb. Use the same process, however,discard these remains -~rather than soak overnight again.

  1. It prevents the contents of the ileum (small intestine) from passing into the cecum before the digestive process has been completed.
  2. It serves as a barrier which prevents the bacteria-laden contents of the cecum from seeping back into the small intestine resulting in auto-intoxication –poisoning yourself

**This causes the Liver to not release toxins at its 100% capacity and because the liver is slow in releasing toxins, the entire lymphatic system backs up with no outlet of release

And to top it all off,he Ileo-Cecal valve is distinctive because it is the only site in the GI Tract which is used for Vitamin B12 and bile acid absorption

Note that most every stressful thought creates stomach acid.  Therefore, the ileo-cecal valve syndrome falls under the mental aspects of illness because the truth of the matter is we can mentally control stress through how we choose to think.

How do I help prevent this syndrome and most importantly prevent you from having to adjust my valve every time that you see me (because it hurts like hell when you do it)?

  1. For starters, do everything you can to remove stress accumulated throughout the day. Here are four stress removers guaranteed to work!
  • Prayer (asking to be released from the prison of stress)
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • Qigong

Take one day off weekly and dedicate that day to just enjoying yourself.  This is known as Sabbath.  My friend Wayne Muller wrote the book Sabbath – Restoring the Sacred Rhythm of Rest because so many people do not allow themselves the time and the space to dump their stress and their worries by taking Sabbath.

  1. Eat your salads at the end of the meal as they do or used to do in Europe.  Since salad is raw and rough it takes longer to digest.  Therefore it blocks the flow of whatever you eat afterwards which is usually you main meal.  By eating it at the close of the meal the salad acts as a brush and comb and helps to easily push the bulk of what was eaten before through the digestive system.  Raw salads unless chewed very well, are direct irritants to people who are actively trying to heal their Ileo-Cecal valve.
  2. Adjust your own Ileo-Cecal valve the way that I have shown you or as outlined in the handouts that I have given you.  This should be done regularly–like everyday if need be.  Can also use ice pack over that area of the valve for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Use Edgar Cayces’  castor oil pack over the liver at bedtime.  Castor oil heals from the outside in and is known to alkalize a hot inflamed liver caused by over-acidity
  4. Work with a qualified practitioner who knows how to treat Candida and SIBO.

Most of the microbes in our guts appear to remain stable for years, perhaps even most of our lives, researchers reported Thursday.

An analysis of the bacteria in the digestive systems of 37 healthy women over a period of about five years found, for the most part, little variation over time, says molecular biologist of the Washington University School of Medicine, who led the research. As decades-long internal companions, Gordon says, many microbes “are in a position to shape our lives, to promote our health or, in certain circumstances, contribute to risk for disease.”

Scientists have known for a long time that we all carry around bacteria that help us digest our food. But they apparently do lots of other things for us too.

“These are cells that are important parts of ourselves,” Gordon says. “And they contribute to our health.”

There’s always been one big question about the microbes, he says: “Once these communities are formed, how long do they endure? What is the stability in healthy individuals?”

To try to get a sense of that, Gordon and his colleagues developed a new type of “gut check”: a genetic analysis Gordon calls “a bar code of life.” The technique involves repeatedly analyzing all the variations in a particular bacterial gene. Because each strain of bacteria carries a slightly different form of the gene, the forms act almost like name tags or “bar codes” that identify which strains are present.

The method is “a way of classifying organisms represented in an individual’s gut community in a moment of time and over time,” Gordon says

Being able to test gut microbes from time to time could eventually prove to be a useful part of a checkup, Gordon says. For example, in the current study, published in this week’s issue of the journal Science, Gordon and his team found that when several women lost weight, the makeup of their gut bacteria slightly shifted (though the scientists couldn’t tell which came first — the weight loss, or the bacterial shift).

“By looking at someone’s intestine we could pretty much tell how much weight they had lost or gained without having to put them on a scale,” says of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, who helped conduct the study.

Another intriguing finding was that people’s microbes seem to run in families — much as genes do. The researchers found more similarities in the gut microbes of related women — such as sisters, or a mother and her daughter — than among women who were not related.

“For everyone that we checked we were able to identify strains of bacteria that were shared between related individuals, which suggests that [they] had these microbes for a long time because many of these [relatives] lived far apart from each other now,” Faith says.

The finding corroborates earlier work suggesting that our microbial communities tend to form early in life, largely from microbes we get from our mothers and other close relatives when we are young.

“In the same way our genome defines who we are, one could say that the microbial populations that inhabit us define who we are,” says of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Because all the women in the study were healthy, the researchers did not examine what happens to our microbes when we do things like take antibiotics or probiotics. Stay tuned for future research.

Internal Salt Water Colon Cleanse

INTERNAL SALT WATER BATHING

As it is necessary to bathe the outside of our bodies, so it is with the inside. I prefer not recommending enemas or colonics as they are often unnecessary and can be  harmful.

There is a much superior method of cleansing the colonic tract without the harmful effects of customary colonics and enemas. This method will cleanse the entire digestive tract while the colonics and enemas will only reach the colon or a small part of it. Colonics can be expensive while salt-water method is not.

DIRECTIONS:

  • Prepare a full quart of lukewarm water
  • Add two level (rounded for the Canadian quart) teaspoons of sea salt.( Do not use ordinary iodized salt, as it will not work properly).
  •  
  • Drink the entire quart of salt and water first thing in the morning. This must be taken on an empty stomach.
  • The salt and water will not separate but will stay intact and quickly and thoroughly wash the entire tract in about one hour.
  • Several eliminations will likely occur. Some with unusual debris.

IMPORTANT: The salt water has the same specific gravity as the blood, hence the kidneys cannot pick up the water and the blood cannot pick up the salt.

This may be taken as often as needed for proper washing of the entire digestive system.

NOTE: If the salt water does not work the first time, try adding a little more or a little less salt until the proper balance is found; or possible take extra water with or without salt. This often increases the activity.

Remember, it can do no harm at any time. The colon needs a good washing, but do it the natural way—the salt water way.
